Dedication:
This event celebrates the memory of Dave Blumenthal (Studio Zoic, Type 2 Fun). Dave was pivotal in developing this event, and a good friend to many of us.
Route Descriptions:
- The Long Tour (59 miles) starts at 9AM. This ride is 91% gravel/dirt, has approx 6,020' of climbing, and 3 feed stations. This tour has been changed since last year to avoid Bear Swamp Road.
- The Medium Tour (32.7 miles) starts at 10AM. This ride is 83% gravel/dirt, has 3,000' of climbing, and 3 feed stations.
- The Short Tour (14.6 miles) starts at 10AM. This ride is 88% gravel/dirt, is more appropriate for families with children (only 1,000 feet of climbing), and 1 feed station.
- Runners (14.6 and 32.7 miles) We now have an option for people to run the short and medium courses. Both running options start at 9am.
- All riders must sign in on the day of the event, rider check-in begins at 8:00 AM. Please plan on arriving 45 minutes before your tour begins.
The ride/run will include:
- Four rest stops with local food, mechanical assistance and first aid supplies.
- Buffet with local food from local restaurants and food providers.
- Course-wide medical and mechanical support.
Raffle (day of event):
- Last year we raffled a bicycle from Onion River Sports, and trail passes from Millstone Trails and Kingdom Trails. Items for this year's raffle will be announced as they become available.
- Raffle tickets will be available on the event registration site at bikereg.com. You do not have to attend or ride in the the event to purchase raffle tickets.
What Kind of Bicycle Should I Bring?
Many people who have ridden the Vermont Eco-Tour in the past have chosen to ride it on either a mountain bike, a cyclocross bike, or a "hybrid" bike. Some people ride these roads on road bicycles, but with heavy touring wheels (32 spokes) and large tires (25-28mm). The Tour follows regularly maintained dirt roads
that are used by cars, not to be confused with unmaintained jeep roads. However, they are gravel & dirt roads, so expect some potholes and loose gravel to keep things interesting.
What Else Should I Bring To the Ride?
- A helmet. No one rides this event without one. Period.
- Cycling gloves (recommended, not required)
- Water bottle(s) or camelbak-type hydration pack.
- Snacks/energy food - we have this pretty well covered, but you might have some preferences for things that we won't be providing.
- Extra layer or windbreaker to start with.. (Plan on carrying layers with you - we are not responsible for items left at rest stops.)
- Sunblock.
- Spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, frame pump. We will have some tools and tubes at the rest stops, but if you get a flat between rest stops, it could be a while before we get to you.
- Small first aid kit.
Where the Money Goes:
The purpose of this event is to raise funds and awareness for the Cross Vermont Trail Association's (CVTA) trail projects in the Capital Region of Central Vermont.
